There’s a growing body of research that shows there are numerous positive outcomes from studying abroad, including greater adaptability, tolerance for ambiguity, appreciation of different ideas and perspectives, and ability to work with people from different backgrounds. These are soft skills often not acquired in the classroom, and they help students become interculturally competent and better prepared to join today’s global workforce.

Kim Priebe is the Director of the Study Abroad program at NC State University’s Office of Global Engagement. She has worked in the field of international higher education for more than eighteen years and her areas of expertise include student development and risk management. Priebe is particularly interested in the aspects of mental health and self-care in the study abroad experience as well as advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to create access for all students.

In the podcast below, you will learn about:

  • the benefits of study abroad for all students regardless of major;
  • the types of study abroad programs and determining fit;
  • planning for the study abroad experience; and,
